15-Year Sentence for 59-Year-Old Child Abuser

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo High Court has sentenced a 59-year-old man to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually abusing a minor.

The verdict was delivered by High Court Judge Navaratne Marasinghe, who found the accused guilty of the charges.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 75,000 on the convicted individual. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional one-year imprisonment.

Furthermore, the judge ordered the perpetrator to pay Rs 300,000 in compensation to the victim. Non-payment of this compensation will also lead to an additional one-year imprisonment.

The trial revealed that the accused had befriended the nine-year-old schoolgirl in 2011 by offering her toffees and chocolates, subsequently luring her into a situation where he committed the sexual abuse.
