Sajith Backs Move Against Deshabandu; Blames Ex-President & Ex-Speaker

COLOMBO (News 1st); Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has announced that the opposition will fully support any proposal brought against Deshabandu Tennakoon.

Speaking on the matter, Premadasa said that the government has presented a no-confidence motion against Tennakoon, and the opposition is prepared to back it.

Premadasa stated, "We previously opposed Tennakoon's appointment during the tenure of the previous government. We voted against his appointment in the Constitutional Council."

He further criticized the appointment of Tennakoon, stating that it was done in violation of the Constitution. "The former President and the former Speaker must be held accountable for this constitutional breach. The events in the Constitutional Council were completely distorted, and the supreme law of the country was blatantly disregarded. The former President and the former Speaker appointed Tennakoon as IGP by violating the Constitution."
