COLOMBO (News 1st) - The General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), Sagara Kariyawasam, has stated that the public is rallying to grant power to the SLPP in the upcoming local government elections.
He said that at this local government election, the public is coming together to once again grant power to the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, and that the SLPP is prepared to reclaim this power.
He also noted that, having already secured a two-thirds majority in Parliament and elected a President, if the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) claims that they need local power as well, it is an insult to the people.
"Before asking for local power, they should fulfill the promises made when they took national power. The National People's Power (NPP) has no moral right to demand local power without first delivering on their national promises," he added.
