COLOMBO (News 1st); The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, attended the Special Boat Squadron (SBS) insignia awarding and passing out ceremony at SBS Headquarters, Trincomalee, at the invitation of Commanding Officer SBS, Commander Lakmal Weerakkodi.
The event marked the successful completion of course No. 32 by 2 officers and 34 sailors, showcasing the rigorous training and dedication of the naval personnel.
The awarding of insignias was a significant milestone for the personnel, symbolizing their readiness, skill, and commitment to the highest standards.
Outstanding trainees received awards from the Commander of the Navy, including the Commander SNK Silva Memorial Trophy for Sub Lieutenant RMYK Rathnayake, the Commander CD Martenstyn Memorial Trophy for Ordinary Seaman KMSR Premalal, and several other prestigious accolades.
In his address, Vice Admiral Banagoda congratulated the new batch of SBS personnel and reflected on the SBS's evolution from humble beginnings to its current stature as a highly skilled and respected unit. He honored the memory of fallen SBS naval personnel and emphasized the armed forces' role in nation-building efforts. He urged the new batch to maintain discipline, hone their skills, and perform their duties with dedication.
The ceremony featured impressive combat demonstrations by SBS personnel, including sea, air, and land exhibitions, showcasing the expertise of SBS snipers, combat divers, VBSS teams, and more.
