Gazette to Reveal Names of LG Poll Candidates Next Week

COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Election Commission announced yesterday (20) that local government elections will be held on May 6th. 

In a statement issued yesterday afternoon, the Commission revealed that 107 registered political parties and 49 independent groups have submitted their nominations.

Approximately 8,500 individuals are set to be elected to local government institutions, in the upcoming election. 

The acceptance of nominations for the 2025 Local Government Election concluded at 12 noon yesterday. 

It is noteworthy that this year, nominations submitted by many recognized political parties and independent groups had been rejected for various reasons. 

Meanwhile, the National Election Commission said that the names of candidates of the upcoming local government election will be announced through a Gazette notification, within the next week.
