Government To Resume Pension Scheme For Farmers

COLOMBO (News 1st); The government has decided to restart providing pensions for farmers.

Chairman of the Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board, Premasiri Jasinghaarachchi stated that life insurance coverage will also be provided to farmers.

Meanwhile, the Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board says that the compensation for crop damages caused by heavy rainfall at the end of last year has now been completed.

The compensation amount provided to 53,503 farmer families is 952 million Rupees.

However, some farmers have not received compensation due to irregularities in confirming farmer identities and assessment reports.
