COLOMBO (News 1st); Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Cabinet Spokesperson, has confirmed that the Batalanda Commission Report will be presented to Parliament this week. This decision follows a special focus on the report by the President during the recent Cabinet meeting.
Dr. Jayatissa stated that the Cabinet had an extensive discussion on the report and decided to present it to Parliament for further action. He emphasized that once the report is tabled, subsequent decisions and actions will be announced.
When asked whether the report would be presented as a proposal or for implementation of its findings, Dr. Jayatissa clarified that the Attorney General's Department would be responsible for taking necessary actions based on the recommendations of the commission.
He noted that presenting the report to Parliament is the first step, and further discussions on the next steps will follow.
Addressing concerns about potential political gains from presenting the report to Parliament, Dr. Jayatissa dismissed such notions, stating that the presentation is a routine procedure.
