Court Orders Virtual Hearing for Ganemulla Sanjeewa Murder Suspects

COLOMBO (News 1st): Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali has instructed the court registrar to take necessary steps to hold the case related to the Ganemulla Sanjeewa murder via Skype technology today, involving the nine suspects currently in remand custody.

Accordingly, the registrar has informed prison officials to make the necessary arrangements for this virtual hearing.

The magistrate issued this directive considering the security concerns associated with transporting the suspects to court.

So far, 11 suspects have been identified in connection with the murder, with nine of them already arrested.

One suspect, who allegedly entered the court posing as a lawyer and shot Ganemulla Sanjeewa, is currently being detained and interrogated for 90 days by the Colombo Crimes Division.

The other nine suspects, who are accused of aiding and abetting the murder, remain in remand custody.

The incident took place on the 19th of February, when organized criminal Ganemulla Sanjeewa was murdered inside the No. 5 Additional Magistrate’s Court at the Hulftsdorp Court Complex.
