COLOMBO (News 1st): A special committee has been appointed to provide recommendations regarding whether the process of issuing land deeds under the "Urumaya" program should be continuously carried out.

The special committee formed by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation includes nine members.

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, Dr. Susil Ranasinghe said that the special committee has been informed to expedite the delivery of the relevant recommendations.

He further explained that this decision was made in response to feedback from individuals involved in land-related matters, including land deeds, who expressed concerns that the Urumaya program no longer aligns with the country's current needs and that amendments are necessary.

As a result, the Cabinet recently decided to appoint a special committee to assess whether the Urumaya program should continue, with or without revisions.
