COLOMBO (News 1st); National People's Power (NPP) Member of Parliament Chandana Sooriyaarachchi has raised concerns over attempts by certain groups to create a state of national security panic.
According to MP Sooriyaarachchi, these groups, which he claims are responsible for bankrupting the country and destroying lives, are now linking organized criminal activities to national security threats.
MP Sooriyaarachchi highlighted the rise in organized criminal activities, including murders and shootings, orchestrated by various underworld groups. He accused some individuals of trying to associate these incidents with national security to instill fear among the public.
Reflecting on past events, MP Sooriyaarachchi recalled the 2019 Easter attacks and the subsequent claims by then-President Gotabaya Rajapaksa that national security was at risk. He noted that Rajapaksa had expressed his readiness to take responsibility for the country in response to the attacks. MP Sooriyaarachchi emphasized the importance of upholding the law to address these matters.
"Today, we see various criminal organizations carrying out murders and shootings within their power projects. These incidents are being used by the Rajapaksa family to claim that national security is at risk, and they are ready to take control of the country," said MP Sooriyaarachchi. "This is a deceitful plan to confirm their power by endangering the country. Therefore, the public must remain vigilant."
He further urged the public to be cautious and not to allow groups that have bankrupted the country, destroyed lives, and looted national assets to regain power.
