COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police have announced a reward of 1 million rupees for any information leading to the arrest of a woman involved in the murder of notorious crime boss Ganemulla Sanjeewa.
In a new development, two additional suspects have been apprehended in connection with the murder.
The suspects, identified as the mother and younger brother of the main female suspect, were arrested in Katuwellegama, Negombo.
They face charges of concealing information and aiding and abetting a crime. This brings the total number of suspects in custody to ten.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Buddhika Manatunga, the Police Spokesperson, stated, "We will soon arrest the individual who orchestrated this incident. Additionally, we seek public assistance to apprehend the woman involved in this incident. A reward of 1 million rupees will be offered to anyone providing accurate information leading to the arrest, as announced by the Inspector General of Police."
The Police Spokesperson further revealed that the woman, who posed as a lawyer in connection with the Ganemulla Sanjeewa murder, is still believed to be in the country.
"Based on the information we currently have, the woman is still in the country. We have deployed special security measures at potential escape points. Our operations will continue based on the available information," SSP Manatunga added.
In response to a question about recent changes in the higher ranks of the police and their potential political motivations, SSP Manatunga commented, "We are investigating whether there is a group behind these incidents. Observations suggest that there might be some level of such activity. However, we are also investigating this aspect. Despite the changes in higher ranks, these incidents are not related to those changes."
The police continue to urge the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.
