COLOMBO (News 1st); A suspect arrested with 2 kilograms of Kerala cannabis near Wiskam Mawatha, Hokandara, Malabe, has been detained for seven days for questioning.
The order was issued today by Kaduwela Magistrate Chanima Wijebandara.
According to Malabe Police, the suspect was apprehended after attempting to evade police orders, leading to shots being fired at the vehicle. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody.
Representing the suspect, attorneys Nuwan Jayawardena and Dasun Perera argued in court that their client was not attempting to flee but was reversing towards the police officers as instructed when the police shot at the front wheel of the vehicle.
After considering the presented arguments, the Magistrate granted permission to detain the suspect for seven days for further questioning and ordered the progress of the investigation to be reported to the court on March 2.
