COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo Magistrate's Court has ordered the remand of three suspects, in connection with the murder of Ganemulla Sanjeewa, until March 7.
The suspects, Damith Anjana Nayanajith, Chamod Gimhana, and Damidu Lakshan, were presented before Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali today.
Damith Anjana Nayanajith is accused of providing transportation to the shooter.
Damidu Lakshan is accused of providing the firearm to the shooter.
Following their arrest by the Colombo Crimes Division, they were initially detained for 24 hours for questioning with the approval of an additional magistrate.
In addition, the court was informed that the first and second suspects are being held for 90 days for further interrogation under the Defence Secretary's orders.
The shooter and the driver of the van used in the crime are also in custody.
Senior Attorney Ajith Pathirana, representing the first suspect in the Ganemulla Sanjeewa murder case, at the previous court session requested the court to ensure that the two detained suspects are not moved without judicial approval.
Additionally, he sought permission for two legal representatives to meet with the suspects, a request that was granted during the previous Friday's court session.
Attorney Pathirana also urged the court to direct the Judicial Medical Officer's attention to the internal ear injury sustained by the first suspect, the alleged shooter.
Investigating officers stated they were unaware of the injury but assured the court that necessary steps would be taken to address it.
