COLOMBO (News 1st); A police constable attached to the Mount Lavinia Police Station has been arrested for allegedly aiding a fellow constable who disappeared with a T-56 firearm.
The arrested individual is a 28-year-old resident of Galpitamada.
The fugitive constable, who vanished with the firearm, is believed to have fled to Dubai on the same day.
He had taken the T-56 rifle and 30 rounds of ammunition from the station at around 5:30 PM on the 8th of February, intending to report for duty from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
However, he failed to show up at his designated post, prompting an investigation.
Police have launched operations to recover the missing firearm and continue their search for the fugitive constable.
