Ministry of Defence Announces Deadline for Return of Firearms, Strict Legal Action for Non-Compliance

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Defence says that firearms will only be granted for the purpose of protecting cultivations.

Deputy Minister of Defence, Aruna Jayasekara highlighted that the issuance of firearms for other needs is currently restricted.

The deadline to return the firearms issued by the police and tri-forces to civilians, has been scheduled for January 20. 

Deputy Minister of Defence, Aruna Jayasekara further highlighted that strict legal action will be taken against individuals who fail to return the firearms by the deadline.

Additionally, the Ministry of Defence confirmed that an audit is underway regarding the firearms issued to civilians.
