COLOMBO (News 1st): Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage today issued open warrants for the immediate arrest of former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran and a former director of Perpetual Treasuries Limited Ajahn Punchihewa.
The warrants were issued in connection with the Central Bank bond scam that took place on February 27, 2015.
The Magistrate issued the open warrants after the suspects failed to appear in court, despite previous orders to do so.
The Criminal Investigation Department has charged six individuals, including Mahendran and Punchihewa, accusing them of causing a loss of over Rs. 600 million to the government through fraudulent bond transactions.
The Magistrate also ordered that another suspect, Arjun Aloysius be presented in court at the next hearing.
