Police Crack Down on Illegal Vehicles :Multiple Discoveries Across Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st): Several motor vehicles that did not meet legal requirements were discovered in various locations over the past few days.

The most recent incident was reported from Theldeniya. A jeep with fake license plates was found hidden in a house in the Theldeniya area and was taken into custody by the police. 

The Department of Motor Traffic confirmed that another vehicle is registered under the same number as the Montero.

Investigations are underway to locate the owner of this jeep.

Meanwhile, another luxury jeep without an owner was found yesterday in a house in the Timbirigaskatuwa area of Katana. 

This discovery was made during a raid conducted by the Negombo Division Crime Investigation Unit.

Additionally, last weekend, a luxury car with fake information, allegedly belonging to former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte, was found in Mirihana. 

The former State Minister was subsequently arrested in connection with this vehicle and remanded until the 7th.

DIG Nihal Thalduwa Police Spokesperson & Attorney-at-Law said, "The Government Analyst’s report revealed that the vehicle’s number was either fake or altered. Furthermore, customs records do not indicate the importation of such a vehicle, and the Department of Motor Traffic has no registration information for it."

Former Minister Johnston Fernando was also arrested on the 23rd for possessing an unregistered vehicle assembled from imported parts, found at a hotel in Colombo.

He was later released on bail by the court.
