COLOMBO (News 1st); The first ever Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting hosted by a small-island Pacific nation has launched. The first day of CHOGM was opened with a traditional Samoan ceremony.
The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting week opened today in Apia, Samoa where delegates were moved by the symbolic arrival of the Torch of Change.
Nearly 1,000 delegates gathered for the opening of the Commonwealth Youth, Women’s and People’s Forums.
CHOGM Samoa 2024 will feature several Ministerial Meetings, 35 side events, four Forums, and the election of the new Commonwealth Secretary-General.
The Samoan Prime Minister will be welcoming to His Majesty King Charles III, who—accompanied by Her Majesty Queen Camilla will attend CHOGM, as well as a series of engagements as part of an official State Visit.
His Majesty has attended previous CHOGMs, but this will be the first time as Head of the Commonwealth.
