Ex-MP Sri Ranga Sought in Defamatory Poster Case

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage today that investigations are ongoing to arrest former Member of Parliament J. Sri Ranga, the main suspect in the case involving defamatory posters targeting the Mannar High Court Judge.

During the court proceedings, investigators stated that the main suspect is currently not at his residence and efforts are being made to locate him.

President's Counsel Maithri Gunaratne, representing several suspects currently in remand custody, argued that his clients are witnesses in the case. He emphasized that keeping them in remand would hinder the police's ability to confirm the facts of the case.

After considering the submissions, the Magistrate ordered the release of four out of the eight suspects on bail. 

The remaining four suspects were ordered to be further remanded until November 4.
