Woman Arrested for Smuggling Foreign Cigarettes

COLOMBO (News 1st); A woman was arrested early this morning at Bandaranaike International Airport for illegally bringing a large consignment of foreign-manufactured cigarettes into the country.

The suspect was found in possession of 184 cartons containing a total of 36,800 cigarettes of various brands. 

The estimated value of the seized cigarettes is approximately Rs. 5.5 million.

The 34-year-old woman, a resident of Ja-Ela, is scheduled to be presented before the Negombo Magistrate's Court.
