COLOMBO (News 1st); At the "Ranil ta Puluwan" (Ranil Can) rally in Ruwanwella, President Ranil Wickremesinghe delivered a scathing critique of his political opponents, Sajith Premadasa and Anura Kumara Dissanayake, for their recent presidential ambitions.

Wickremesinghe accused them of abandoning the people during the country's economic collapse and questioned their credibility.

"When the people of this country were without food, medicine, fuel, and gas, I took on the responsibility of addressing those needs. No one else stepped up—Sajith and Anura ran away," Wickremesinghe declared.

He emphasized that under his leadership, the country now has essential supplies and children are receiving proper education.

Wickremesinghe expressed disbelief at the sudden promises made by his opponents, highlighting their absence during the crisis. "I called on them to extend support in parliament. Did they accept that responsibility? Did Sajith and Anura step forward to feed the people and make them live? They created strikes and demanded elections. People are without food, and they demanded elections. What did they do? Are the people to eat the ballot paper?" he questioned.

He also underscored his efforts in securing international support and relief, stating, "I spoke with the IMF, world leaders and secured some relief. I don't believe it is complete. I understand the suffering of the people. The stability that we have created must be ensured. If not, we will slip back to where we were."
