COLOMBO (News 1st); On August 1st, the Musaeus College Auditorium won’t just host a concert. It will host a memory. A movement. A moment.

Sirasa FM’s “Chamatkara Rathriya” isn’t just another musical evening — it’s a time capsule. A tribute. A love letter to two voices that shaped the soul of Sri Lankan music: Dr. Victor Ratnayake and Priya Suriyasena.

Imagine this: the golden glow of stage lights, the hush before the first note, and then — the unmistakable echoes of “Andura Andura Mage” and “SA” classics, reborn through the voices of today’s finest artists. Nalin Perera, Samitha Mudunkotuwa, Raini Charuka, and others will take the stage, not to imitate, but to interpret. To honor. To celebrate.

Music director Mahesh Denipitiya leads an elite ensemble, weaving together the past and present in a symphony of remembrance. It’s not just a concert. It’s a cultural revival.

Victor, the maestro of solo concerts. Priya, the poet of gentle melodies. One retired, one departed — both eternal.

Sirasa FM, since 2006, has been more than a broadcaster. It’s been a guardian of musical heritage. And on this night, it becomes a storyteller.

Dr. Victor Ratnayake’s illustrious career began in July 1965 and includes pioneering works such as the legendary solo concert series “SA”, which spans over 1,500 performances. In recognition of his immense contribution to the arts, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of the Visual and Performing Arts in 2018.

Priya Suriyasena began his musical journey in 1968 with the beloved track “Andura Andura Mage,” and remained a beloved voice for decades, known for his gentle style and lyrical depth. His passing in December 2024 marked the end of an era, but his music continues to resonate.
