Weather Alert: Showers, Thundershowers, and Strong Winds Expected

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather alert indicating that showers or thundershowers are expected at various times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya districts. 

Some areas in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with Galle and Matara districts, may experience fairly heavy showers exceeding 50 mm.

Strong winds, ranging from 40 to 50 kmph, are anticipated over the Western slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.

The general public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

In a related note, the sun will be directly overhead in Sri Lanka from August 28th to September 6th due to its apparent southward relative motion. 

Today, the sun will be directly over Kaluthara, Nivithigala, Kahawatta, and Okanda at approximately 12:09 PM.
