COLOMBO (News 1st); National People’s Power (NPP) presidential candidate, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, has firmly denied recent claims made by President Ranil Wickremesinghe regarding an invitation to take over the government during the political turmoil when Mahinda Rajapaksa and others fled.
Speaking to reporters, Dissanayake emphasized the importance of maintaining the dignity and responsibility of the presidency when making such assertions.
“It’s well known that neither Gotabhaya nor Mahinda Rajapaksa invited the National People’s Power to form a government. We’re not surprised, and frankly, we never expected an invitation,” he stated.
“They know that if the National People’s Power gains control, corruption and fraud in this country would be exposed, and those responsible would be held accountable,” he asserted.
Addressing President Wickremesinghe directly, Dissanayake urged him to act with the gravity that the presidency demands.
He also called on the people of Sri Lanka to remain vigilant and seize the unique opportunity to form a true people’s government.
