COLOMBO (News 1st) - A total of 51 people have been arrested for violating election laws during the parliamentary polling period, according to Police Spokesperson DIG Nihal Thalduwa.
This includes two candidates who were taken into custody.
DIG Thalduwa explained that most of the arrests were made due to illegal election campaign activities, such as capturing photographs, tearing ballot papers, distributing money, and engaging in physical assault.
Despite these incidents, the police confirmed that the overall polling period remained relatively peaceful.
