COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) presidential hopeful Namal Rajapaksa is poised to deposit his security deposit today, marking a formal step in his bid for the nation's highest office.
The move comes ahead of his inaugural public rally, scheduled to take place in the historic city of Anuradhapura on the 21st.
Amidst the campaign's momentum, the SLPP has announced the assembly of its disciplinary committee.
The committee's mandate is to address instances of dissent within the party ranks, specifically targeting members of parliament, former provincial councilors, and local government members who have contravened the party's directives.
The disciplinary proceedings are set to commence following the submission of nominations for the presidential election.
A senior SLPP member disclosed that despite past instances where parliamentarians defected to support rival presidential candidates, a solid group of 42 MPs has pledged to uphold the party line.
