COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has called upon all parties to participate in the demanding task of rebuilding the country.

In a special statement to parliament on Tuesday (2), Wickremesinghe acknowledged the presence of a group that is closely monitoring the ongoing developments in the country.

He highlighted that members of this group come from various political parties and are committed to maintaining independent and impartial oversight. They are assessing whether their allegiance lies with a party or an individual, or if it truly stands with the country's interests.

The President then drew an analogy from the play "Caucasian Chalk Circle" to emphasize the importance of making daring decisions for the betterment of the nation.

He recounted the story of Grusha, who had to carry a child and journey over a vine bridge, her only viable option at the time, despite nearby scepticism and fearful inquiries about her fate. Against all odds, Grusha successfully reaches safety with the child, and an onlooker, reflecting on their initial doubt, exclaims in frustration: "I thought she was going to fall".

"In the Caucasian Chalk Circle, (Hunuwataye kathawa) Grusha faces a critical decision: to carry the child and journey over the vine bridge, her only viable option at the time. Despite nearby scepticism and fearful inquiries about her fate, "Are you going to die? Do you see the precipice...! Like the underworld...!!" However, Grusha makes a daring decision. She bravely chooses to undertake this risky path. Many anticipate her failure as she crosses the precarious vine bridge. However, against all odds, Grusha successfully reaches safety with the child. An onlooker, reflecting on their initial doubt, exclaims in frustration: "I thought she was going to fall", said the President

The President urged those with such pessimism to change their mindset for the betterment and future of the nation.

President Wickremesinghe then urged all members of the assembly, regardless of their political affiliations, to prioritize the welfare of the nation.

He emphasized that his decisions are not driven by political power or popularity, but solely for the country's benefit.

He called upon each member to join hands in the arduous task of rebuilding the nation, akin to nurturing blossoming flowers. The President urged everyone to unite and lift up the motherland once more.
