COLOMBO (News 1st); Colombo experienced a storm-like downpour on Tuesday (7) evening, taking the general public by surprise.
The Met Department said that heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-western and Uva provinces.
At the same time, Sri Lanka Police said that traffic came to a standstill in between Nelundeniya and Udukumbura on the Colombo - Kandy Main Road after a tree uprooted onto the road.
In addition, an earth slip brought traffic to a complete stop between Haldummulla and Beragala.
Motorists are strongly avised to exercise caution when driving under these conditions.
