COLOMBO (News 1st) - NARA says that the Chinese research vessel Shi Yan 6 will commence its research operations in the Sea of Sri Lanka, on Monday (30).
NARA adds that the research operations are being carried out in the sea of Sri Lanka beyond Bentara.
The temperature of the seawater, the condition of the sea currents, and how they affect marine life and climate change are to be studied.
NARA says that in addition, samples of water at different levels of the sea will also be tested.
4 NARA officials are scheduled to join these research activities.
The spokesperson of the Sri Lanka Navy Captain Gayan Wickramasooriya says that in addition, 2 navy officers will also join this research team.
Chinese research vessel Shi Yan 6, which has a capacity of 60 people, arrived in Sri Lanka on the 25th of October.
The vessel carries 260 tons of research equipment.
