COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka's Court of Appeal ordered the Fort Magistrate's Court to suspend any action in the case filed against Former President Maithripala Sirisena with regard to the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks, for a period of 10 weeks from Friday (14).

Earlier, summons were issued on Sirisena by the Fort Magistrate's Court to be present in court on Friday (14) with regard to the case.

Thereafter, the former president filed a writ application with the Court of Appeal seeking to quash the summons.

Justices of the Court of Appeal Sobitha Rajakaruna, and Dhammika Ganepola ordered for the debate on the application to be taken up on the 6th of December 2022.

In addition, and order was made for written submissions to be filed on the 30th of November 2022.

However, the interim injunction sought by Maithripala Sirisena to quash the summons issued by the Fort Magistrate's Court was not issued on Friday (13).

The Court of Appeal fixed for order on October 14 (tomorrow) on whether it would issue Stay Order over a writ petition filed by former President    Maithripala Sirisena.

This is in connection with a personal complaint filed over the failure to prevent the terrorist attack on Easter Sunday that took place on April 21, 2019 despite receiving intelligence information.

The petition was taken up in the presence of a Court of Appeal bench comprising Justices Sobitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola.

Rev. Father Cyril Gamini and Jesudasan Nadesan, a victim of the attack had filed a complaint against former President Maithripala Sirisena in the Fort Magistrate’s Court for his failure to prevent the terrorist attack that took place on 2019 Easter Sunday.
