1,650 Police Officers Deployed for Security at Independence Day Celebrations

COLOMBO (News 1st) - 1,650 Police officers and the Police Special Task Force officers have been deployed to ensure security during the main ceremony and rehearsals for the 77th National Independence Day celebrations. 

The Police have also announced a special traffic plan to facilitate the rehearsal and event without causing disruptions to traffic or the public.

Today, a special traffic plan will be implemented in the vicinity of Independence Square in Colombo from 6 am to 12 noon, in preparation for the Independence Day celebration rehearsal. 

The public is advised to use alternative routes during this time.

The main Independence Day celebration is scheduled to take place on the 4th of February at Independence Square, Colombo, under the patronage of the President. 

This year's event will not include the traditional Presidential salute.
