State Minister Diana to take loudspeaker laws to Court

COLOMBO (News 1st) - State Minister Diana Gamage says that she hopes to amend the existing laws regarding loudspeakers at the Court.

Speaking at a tourism promotion program in Weligama, the State Minister said that in order to reach Sri Lanka's tourism goals, people should be able to eat, drink, travel and participate in cultural and music festivals as they please. 

The State Minister said that she hopes to discuss with the Attorney General with regard to amending laws regarding loudspeakers.

Noise pollution is considered a public nuisance and the police were obliged to entertain complaints in relation to public nuisances under Section 261 of the Penal Code within Chapter XIV. People can complain about noise exceeding 60 decibels after 6 pm and loud noises between 10 pm and 6 am.
