Doctors' One-Day Strike Causes Chaos in Hospitals Nationwide

COLOMBO (News 1st); A one-day token strike initiated by doctors has caused significant distress among patients at numerous hospitals.

The Government Medical Officers' Association spokesperson, Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe, stated that the strike is in protest against the failure to arrest the suspect involved in the severe sexual assault of a female doctor at Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.

The strike, which began at 8 AM today and will continue until 8 AM tomorrow, has left many patients unable to receive treatment.

Reports indicate that large numbers of patients at outpatient departments and clinics have been severely affected, with many having to return home without receiving medical care.

Patients at Colombo National Hospital expressed their frustration and helplessness due to the strike. 

Similar scenes were observed at Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, where patients from various regions faced distressing conditions.

Doctors at Kandy National Hospital also joined the strike, leaving patients who had come for treatment in a state of despair. 

The situation was no different at Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, where patients were seen waiting helplessly due to the strike.

In Kegalle District General Hospital, doctors participated in the strike, further exacerbating the situation for patients. 

Galle Hospital's outpatient and clinic services were also disrupted, causing physical and mental anguish for many patients.

Badulla Teaching Hospital saw its doctors joining the strike as well, leading to significant disruptions in medical services. 

Patients voiced their concerns and frustrations, highlighting the severe impact of the strike on their health and well-being.
