Incarcerations on the rise - Prisons Dept.

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Commissioner General of Prisons and the Prisons Spokesperson, Chandana Ekanayake says there is a rise in the number of incarcerations since early 2022.

According to the statistics of the Department of Prisons, the Prisons Commissioner says that incarcerations in connection to various charges is on the rise.

As of 21st of July, 2022, nearly 20,500 prisoners and suspects remain detained at all prisons in the island.
