COLOMBO (News 1st); People in many parts of the country had to wait in queues to purchase essential food items provided at concessionary prices by the Sathosa.
People in Chunnakam, Jaffna had been waiting in line for hours on Monday (28) to get the relevant essential items.
In this backdrop, it is reported that Sri Lanka has sought an additional credit line of $1 billion from India to import essentials amid its worst economic crisis in decades, as the Indian foreign minister began talks with the government of its neighbor.
It was also revealed on Tuesday (29) that Sri Lanka is negotiating for another 250 million US dollar SWAP from Bangladesh.
This was confirmed to News 1st by Bangladesh Foreign Minister A.K. Abdul Momen on Tuesday (29), following the Foreign Ministers’ meeting of the BIMSTEC Summit.
He said that Bangladesh was considering this request.
