Amber alert issued for rough seas, heavy showers

COLOMBO (News 1st); An amber alert has been issued by the Department of Meteorology warning naval and fishing communities to not to venture into the Central parts of southeast Bay of Bengal sea area until tomorrow (20).

According to the Meteorology Department, the low pressure area over Southeast Bay of Bengal moved east-northeastwards and lay 

centered at 08.30 a.m. of 19th March over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea is likely to continue to move northwards and intensify into a depression by 20th March and into a cyclonic storm by 21st of March.
