COLOMBO (News 1st); The Flight Attendants' Union (FAU) of SriLankan Airlines has requested the company to provide the cabin crew a proper crew meal instead of the meal allowance which has been in effect for more than 42 years so far.
Accordingly, the FAU has requested the current Chairman of SriLankan Airlines, Ashok Pathirage to provide the crew of an adequate meal for consumption.
Stating that the FAU does not wish to hinder the operation of flights system wide and or the passenger’s journey, the union states that on all flights in which a part of the stipulated timings for meals are within the Flight Duty Period (FDP) but outside the block to block period the crew will be consuming their meal “during flight” in consideration of the operation of the airline and also in consideration of the passenger’s journey.
Moreover, the FAU mentions with regard to service after having studied the schedule of flights and the duration of flight time on some flights, the crew will not have time to serve passengers on certain flights.
Accordingly, the FAU requests that the details of such short haul flights, where the time for service will not be adequate, will be shared and emphasizes that the new designing of services should be done together by the FAU and the Management in collaboration.
" It is the view of the FAU that trial runs are necessitated as the consumption of our meal at stipulated times, and the resulting effects of it on many aspects of flight and passenger service being assessed prior to us deciding on how the meal can be consumed on all flights will be the prudent way forward," the FAU mentions in a statement.
