Gas explsions: Committee report to President on Tuesday

COLOMBO (News 1st); The committee appointed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to inquire into the recent gas explosions is due to submit its final report on Tuesday.

A committee member, speaking to News 1st, stated that the report has been completed.

Meanwhile, several gas explosions were reported on Friday (10) as well.

A gas stove exploded at a house in the Hawa Eliya area in Nuwara Eliya on Friday (10). A resident claimed that a blue flame similar to what is used to cut material like iron was seen on the cooker before the explosion.

Moreover, a gas cooker exploded at a house in Ihala Karagahamuna, Kadawatha on the same day, at which the ceiling of the kitchen was seen damaged due to the explosion. 

A resident of the house claimed that the water was boiling while they were in the living room, and the sound of glass cracking was heard after a while.

Gas explosions were reported from Batticaloa, Ampara and Ambalantota as well.

State Minister of Consumer Protection Lasantha Alagiyawanna stated that he is due to receive a report on Sunday (12) on explosions involving gas cylinders that were issued to the market with the amended new seal.
