COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ceylon Fertilizer Company has secured a court order suspending the payments to the Chinese company that shipped organic fertilizer to Sri Lanka.
The Ceylon Fertilizer Company obtained an order from the Commercial High Court in Colombo, against Qingdao Seawin Biotech Group Co., Ltd., the local agent and the State Bank.
According to the order, a payment cannot be made to the Chinese company from a State Bank, through any Letters of Credit opened in favour of the Chinese company.
The Colombo Commercial High Court had issued the order blocking any payment made to the Chinese company and the local agent under any Letters of Credit.
The National Plant Quarantine Service has confirmed the presence of various harmful pathogens including Erwinia in the samples of the organic fertilizer obtained from Qingdao Seawin Biotech Group Co., Ltd.
This stock of fertilizer is part of a shipment obtained through a tender process worth over Rs. 1 Billion initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture.
