COLOMBO (News 1st); 15 suspects including the Lieutenant Colonel Samantha Thilakaratne of the Army who is the Commanding Officer of the Mattakkuliya Army Camp, arrested for murder were remanded until the 29th of October.
The order was given by Colombo Additional Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama on Friday (15).
The suspects were arrested and remanded over the murder of the husband of a Grama Niladhari Officer in Mattakkuliya in early September.
The victim was 36-year-old Akila Sampath Ratnasiri, who was also the leader of a sports team in Thotalanga, Colombo 14.
The 15 suspects include the Grama Niladhari Officer, who is the wife of the victim and 14 Military Intelligence Officers.
Court also permitted for the evidence material obtained during the investigations to be sent to the Government Analysts for further examination.
On the 30th of September, Police told Court that the victim was abducted in an SUV belonging to the Mattakuliya Army Camp and his body was found on the 20th of September on the shores of Crow Island.
Police said he was abducted, strangled and they dumped into the Kelani River from the Sedawatte Bridge.
Police investigations revealed that an affair his wife had, was the motive for the murder.
