'Be prepared to sacrifice one meal' - SLPP MP

COLOMBO (News 1st); A member of Sri Lanka's ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna has hinted that the people need to be prepared to sacrifice at least one meal per day.

He told reporters on Saturday (11), the Rs. 2000/- allowance alone will not make ends meet and the government is not in a position to allocate more money for such purposes.

"All of us have to make sacrifices. We (MPs) have donated our salaries to the COVID-19 Fund," he said.

The people who are used to having three meals a day, would have to sacrifice one meal for a short period, he said adding that the sacrifice would make a better future for the generations to come as measures will be taken to curb the spread of COVID-19, at the same time.

When the government loses revenue, the government is helpless, he told reporters adding that the government is saddened by the situation that the people have to face.
