COLOMBO (News 1st); The remains of a woman were found inside a gunny sack in Valachchenai on Friday (06).
Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said that a missing person complaint was filed with the Valachchenai Police on Thursday (05) evening claiming that the 55-year-old woman had not returned after leaving home to the bank.
At the same time, information was received by the Valachchenai Police OIC claiming that two gunny sacks were found inside an Aquatic Pet Store in Valachchenai Town.
Fertilizer was found inside one of the gunny sacks and the remains of a woman were found inside the other.
Sri Lanka Police upon commencing investigations ruled that the remains belong to the woman who was reported missing.
The owner of the Aquatic Pet Store was arrested by Police.
In addition, the three-wheeler driver who reportedly transported the woman to the bank was also arrested as it was revealed it was he who brought the two gunny sacks.
Police Scene of Crime Officers will visit the crime scene on Friday (06) for further investigations.
Premiliary investigations revealed that the woman was killed by the three-wheeler driver and dumped inside the gunny sack before dropping it off at the Aquatic Pet Store.
