CA issues order preventing implementation of PCoI recommendation

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Court of Appeal today issued an injunction order preventing further action against Senior State Counsel Janaka Bandara based on the final recommendations of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Political Victimization. The Court of Appeal also granted permission to examine the petition filed by Janaka Bandara challenging the final recommendations of the report compiled by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Political Victimization. Moreover, the Court of Appeal ordered to issue summons on Chairman of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Political Victimization - Retired Supreme Court Judge Upali Abeyratne, the other two Commissioners, the Secretary to the Commission, and the Attorney General to appear in court on the 29th of September. The orders were issued when the petition filed by Janaka Bandara requesting to make void the final recommendations of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Political Victimization, which had named him as a respondent to certain complaints, was taken before a bench comprising of Justices Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne, Devika Abeyratne, and B.N. Samarakoon today. The Court of Appeal today issued another injunction preventing the implementation of the recommendations of the PCoI as decided by the Cabinet on January 18, 2021.
