Ship Captain & Second Officer identified in Child Sex Trafficking Case

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Captain of a ship and his second officer, attached to a private shipping company, were positively identified by the 15-year-old sexual abuse victim at the Colombo Magistrate's Court on Thursday (15).

The suspects were arrested in connection to the Mount Lavinia Child Sex Scandal where 41 people were arrested in total and were produced in an identification parade in court.

The Child & Women Bureau informed the court that following the positive identification the investigations are the two suspects were complete.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Lochana Abeywickrama ordered for the suspects to be enlarged on strict bail conditions.

Each suspect was ordered to place a cash bail of Rs. 25,000/- and two personal bails of Rs. 2.5 Mn each.

The Additional Magistrate warned the suspects to refrain from interfering with investigations and if they are found to have interfered with the inquiry and evidence, bail will be canceled and they would be placed in remand custody until the end of the trial.
