Asela Sampath booked for releasing fake content on vaccine adulteration

COLOMBO (News 1st); Consumer Rights Activist Asela Sampath was arrested on Friday (25) for releasing a video of fake content on adulteration of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said the General Manager of the National Medicine Regulatory Authority filed a complaint with the CID against a fake news on the adulteration of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

'The CID in its investigation managed to gather circumstantial and technical evidence with regard to the fake news,' he said adding that the video was released by Asela Sampath.

Further, the CID had gathered more information and analyzed comments made by various parties on the matter.

Asela Sampath will be produced in court on Saturday (26), said the Senior Police Officer.
