COLOMBO (News1st): Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa slammed the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill on Thursday, accusing it of being legislation that would betray the country.
"Yesterday was War Heroes Day. Today is the day of betrayal. Today, they are betraying the freedom that our country won," Premadasa said during the final day of the debate on the bill.
He claimed that the Port City bill was not drafted by the legal draftsman as it is done in another bill.
"34.6% of the bill is in violation of the constitution. We will propose amendments to the bill as well. But that doesn't imply that we support the bill," the opposition leader noted.
He pointed out that monks who backed the government into power are now disapproving the government due to their conduct as well.
