PVT sector urged to allow expectant mothers to stay at home

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department of Labour has requested that expectant mothers who are employed in the private sector be permitted to stay at home, given the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation. This request was made based on the circular issued by the Ministry of Public Administration, Prabhath Chandrakeerthi, the Commissioner-General of Labour informed the management of private institutions. According to Chandrakeerthi, through a gazette, expectant mothers employed in the government sector are permitted to stay at home and NOT report to work. "Irrespective of whether it is the private sector or the public sector, all expectant mothers are at the risk of complications; therefore, the private sector is urged to allow expectant mothers employed at institutions to stay at home as a precautionary measure," the Commissioner-General of Labour stressed on Thursday (May 20).
