COLOMBO (News 1st): The Colpetty Police arrested two suspects for the offense of financial fraud involving the sale of mobile devices, Sri Lanka Police said on Thursday (May 20).
The suspects were identified as a 27-year-old resident of Mutwal and a 29-year-old resident of Moratuwa, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st.
According to the Deputy Police Chief, Police had received complaints from 70 people regarding the failure of a Mobile Device Store in Colpetty to deliver the purchased items to the customers after the respective payments were made.
"The suspects were operating a shop located at No. 662, Galle Road, Colpetty in Colombo 03. According to the complaints received, they had paid money to buy Apple phones and Ipads. However, according to the complainants, they had not received the purchased goods within the mentioned period of delivery. The complainants had paid online as well as visited the shop to make payments," DIG Ajith Rohana elaborated on the case.
Following investigations launched by Colpetty Police, the information had come to light that the perpetrators did not have any connection with the Apple Company nor with any agents of Apple.
Thereby, the duo was taken into police custody and they will be produced at the Fort Magistrate's Court today (May 20).
"It is a financial fraud where the suspects had intentionally cheated the customers. If you have ordered Apple phones or Ipads from this particular shop, you could be a victim of financial fraud and you can make a complaint to the Colpetty Police Station as early as possible," DIG Ajith Rohana advised the people.
