COLOMBO (News 1st); The Cabinet decision to conduct the G. C. E. Advanced Level exam in December and G. C. E. Ordinary Level exam in August will be implemented from 2023, said the Secretary to the Ministry of Education on Tuesday (04).

The Cabinet of Ministers had decided to revise the period of conducting the Advanced Level and Ordinary Level examination. A document from the Department of Government Information noted that structural inconsistencies in these examination systems and the unnecessary administrative delays related to technical procedures had led to unwarranted delays in entering the employment market upon completing higher education. This is a disadvantage to the students personally and for the development of the country as a whole. Therefore, the Minister of Education had produced a resolution to the Cabinet of Minister on the following: - Restructuring the syllabus of grades 10 and 11 for one year and 09 months. - Conducting both G.C.E. (Ordinary Level) and G. C. E. (Advanced Level) Examinations in the in August and December respectively and issue their results within 03 months of each exam, so that a total of 45 months at present can be reduced to 32 months. - Selection of students for universities based on the Z score without waiting for the conclusion of the re-correction process of the G. C. E. Advanced Level examination. - if there are students whose results are upgraded across the re-correction process, they should be awarded new marginal Z scores so they can undergo the relevant degree courses and this method should be applied with effect from the 2020 Advanced Level examination. The resolution by the Education Minister was approved by the Cabinet of Minister.
