Rs. 317 Million worth Gold Biscuits & Jewellery seized at BIA

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Customs seized 36 kg of Gold Biscuits and Jewellery valued at over Rs. 317 Million following an operation carried out at the Bandaranaike International Airport on Friday.

Sri Lanka Customs said it managed to uncover a new technique used to smuggle gold into the country, which also involved the services of certain airport staff. On Friday (30), a passenger from Doha, Qatar has arrived at the BIA and handed over a package of Gold to a maintenance worker at the BIA washroom, said Sri Lanka Customs. The maintenance worker then concealed the package in his person and attempted to leave the BIA premises, when he was arrested. The passengers and the maintenance worker were arrested for investigations.
